Recent few years didn’t turn up good for Will Smith. His last film “After Earth” was such an disappointment. He is back with his new and fresh film “Focus” which is noy a bad come back for him. This film is inspired from the live of a con artist named Apollo Robbins. He has been a consultant for this movie. The starting of the movie is fresh and interesting. Will Smith’s acting and Margot Robbie’s amazing feministic skills makes the film a great drama than actually it is. We see amazing stealing skills from Nicky (Will Smith) who does the acts in a pretty similar way it is believed that Apollo Robbins does such kind of acts. This is what makes the movie a decent entertainer.
The fact cannot be denied that there are drags in “Focus”. After the story gets settled which is when Nicky starts training Jess (Margot Robbie) and after a while they gets separated. But when they meet again after three years we just see the romantic indulgence between Nicky and Jess for the most part. That’s where you feel that the film is getting boring and monotonous. Although, there is an explanation for those events or acts in the ending but that’s not enough to save from the boredom we already had.
One more things which I saw was Will Smith looks a bit aged in front of Margot Robbie. Margot Robbie who has acted in just few movies till now like “The Wolf of Wall Street”, “About Time” etc. She is stunning in this film. She gives her character whatever is needed and executes the same in the right way. Will Smith however is not bad as a smart, creative and minded con artist. Overall, “Focus” is fun initially then a drag in between and finally back on track again. The best part is it ends well, which is nice to have.
