Begin Again Movie Review

Begin Again

Length:- 1 hr. 34 min.

Begin Again is a musical drama with two unusual characters Dan Mulligan (Mark Ruffalo) and Gretta (Keira Knightley). Dan is a record label executive who is struggling to make his career work. Gretta is a song writer cum singer. Gretta after her break up from her boyfriend cum rock star Dave Kohl (Adam Levine).Gretta ends up stay at her friend Steve (James Corden) place. This movie has great soul and base as music. The works well as far as the music is concerned. The cinematography is nice as it shows the beautiful New York city life. The enjoyed a slow and charmingly brisk pace of the film. The actor Mark Ruffalo and Gretta does a great job to make the film work better.

"Begin Again" has centrifugal scene as in the one in which the Gretta sings in a bar on the request of his friend Steve. She is adorable in that scene. This is the scene which repeats itself as it connects numerous events at that one point of time. For example Dan coming to the bar in a depressed situation and Gretta being there after breaking up with her boyfriend."Begin Again" tries to justify its title for both the main characters of Dan and Gretta. Story might be predictable yet presented well which makes it enjoyable.

This film also shows harsh realities of the relationship in the city life. How a girl broke up from a long term relationship? How a guy is trying to take of his child and make it do with a marriage in which the female is cheating on him? How he makes an album with a strange girl with a very little budget? How two strangers becomes more comfortable with each other then from their blood relation ones? All these questions are answered in the film.

Its interesting to see how Dan and Gretta makes an album in New York city and how they release after its completion.

Verdict:- Good

Ratings:- 3 / 5 Stars

  1. I admire any actor willing to learn how to sing or play an instrument for a part. It’s no easy feat and Keira Knightley does it justice. While she doesn’t have a big booming voice, the tone of it is perfect for this kind of music.
