Citylights movie starts with rejoice a small family has in their life just with small things. They are happy with what they have. Pretty soon the happiness shatters. The family members Deepak Singh (Rajkummar Rao) along with his wife and a small girl leaves for Mumbai from Rajasthan. Film has detailed version of how someone struggles and cheated multiple times in a city. This much detailed picture is not shown in the film before this.
The actual and brutal truth of cities that has no space for an innocent person in it. Here comes some hope both husband and wife starts with a job. They are not much bothered about what they are doing, they just known that they have to do it for money. Life is not easy even the happiest and ever smiling person is goes through a lot every day.
Hansal Mehta who has made a very watchable movie last year lags a little bit in the making of this film. What I personally feel is that Hansal Mehta doesn’t concentrate much on the advertising or marketing of his films. The trailer of the film Citylights was released just few weeks before the release of the film itself. Therefore, it wasn’t expected that his film will release that soon.
Songs were a lot more than required for such kind of film. They need power-packed and thrilling background music. The best song from the film was “Muskurane ki Wajah Tum Ho” nicely sung by Arjit Singh. For the most part Citylights movie works meanwhile there was an improvement as well. Manav Kaul a big theatre artist who has worked in few good movies recently does a job in Citylights.
Rajkummar Rao has come up as a talented actor in just few years of his career. This is his second film with Hansal Mehta after Shahid. He brings the required innocence and immaturity required for the character. Overall, Citylights is a good one time watchable movie.
Verdict: - One time watchable
