Citylights Movie Review

Citylights (U/A)

Length: - 2 hrs. 7 min.

Review
Citylights movie starts with rejoice a small family has in their life just with small things. They are happy with what they have. Pretty soon the happiness shatters. The family members Deepak Singh (Rajkummar Rao) along with his wife and a small girl leaves for Mumbai from Rajasthan. Film has detailed version of how someone struggles and cheated multiple times in a city. This much detailed picture is not shown in the film before this.

The actual and brutal truth of cities that has no space for an innocent person in it. Here comes some hope both husband and wife starts with a job. They are not much bothered about what they are doing, they just known that they have to do it for money. Life is not easy even the happiest and ever smiling person is goes through a lot every day.

Hansal Mehta who has made a very watchable movie last year lags a little bit in the making of this film. What I personally feel is that Hansal Mehta doesn’t concentrate much on the advertising or marketing of his films. The trailer of the film Citylights was released just few weeks before the release of the film itself. Therefore, it wasn’t expected that his film will release that soon.

Songs were a lot more than required for such kind of film. They need power-packed and thrilling background music. The best song from the film was “Muskurane ki Wajah Tum Ho” nicely sung by Arjit Singh. For the most part Citylights movie works meanwhile there was an improvement as well. Manav Kaul a big theatre artist who has worked in few good movies recently does a job in Citylights.

Rajkummar Rao has come up as a talented actor in just few years of his career.  This is his second film with Hansal Mehta after Shahid. He brings the required innocence and immaturity required for the character. Overall, Citylights is a good one time watchable movie.

Verdict: - One time watchable

Blended Movie Review

Blended (U/A)

Length: - 1 hr. 57 min.

Review
Blended is a story about separated male and female who goes for a causal blind date. Probably to handle their notorious kids in a much better way or may be some other obvious reasons. There blind date doesn’t work but this film is like which moves ahead and somewhere connects the dots. As about 20 minutes of the film passes, I honestly got confused that where is this film going. Does it has enough stuff to entertain us? Here is the answer not really. Is Adam Sandler able to save this movie? Answer remains the same not really.

One liners are filled a lot of adult contents sometimes they works out. After a while it gets repetitive as the similar kind of jokes are being passed on.  This film is nowhere close to Adam Sandler’s other good classic comedy films. Blended is almost two hours long but in these two hours it makes you feel really exhausted. Like other Sandler’s movies the story is about two opposite genders who doesn’t fall in love with each other for a long time. Rather they ignore each other or may be less interested.

One scene I really liked was the kids using the honeymoon stuff. That scene was short and sweet. Drew Barrymore who already did successful films like first 50 dates with Adam Sandler is unable to create a last impression. Although she looks charming and acts fairly well. Film’s plot is the biggest problem because it’s boring, uninteresting and repetitive.

Africa is nicely shot, it might inspire you to plan a trip there. Kids shown in the movie doesn’t shy talking about vagina, bra etc. Blended does succeed in showing Africa nicely but it’s not a good entertainer. Overall, Blended is remains average film.

Verdict: - Boring

Humshakals Movie Trailer Review

Humshakals is an upcoming comedy film directed by Sajid Khan. As clear from the name of the film itself it’s about lookalikes. In the film three lead characters played by Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh & Ram Kapoor will be seen in triple roles. This is what which creates a lot of obvious confusion in understanding who is who? Sajid Khan who has been well known for his comedy films. Some of his films has been a big box office success like Housefull and its sequel Housefull 2. Yet, almost all of his films were never acclaimed by critics. Because of which there is an obvious cold car between critics and Sajid Khan.

After his big box office failure Himmatwala; Sajid Khan is back in his regular comedy mode. Humshakals movie has thin plot and the jokes are usually not that sensible. The female actress might not even get a chance to do something significant in the film. Actresses like Tamannaah Bhatia, Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta will be seen mostly in bikini. Humshakals is being shot mostly in UK which makes it’s visuals a bit better but probably not a good entertainer.

In my opinion for a good entertaining film there has to be a problem statement. A set of rules for executing the plot with proper flowchart. If these elements are not present in the film then it’s definitely not a good film. Maybe, it can make some money on box office because of good star cast but it cannot be enjoyable and entertaining. Humshakals trailer has already crossed as many as 5 million views on YouTube in less than a month. At the same time there are numerous dislikes for the same. Therefore, it’s self-explanatory that people are not liking it.

Humshakals will be releasing in theaters on 20th June 2014. Overall, I believe Humshakals can be given a miss.

Verdict: - Average

Transformers: Age of Extinction Movie Trailer Review

Transformers is a sci-fi movie franchise which was started just a few years back in 2007. Since, then it has gained tremendous appreciation from its viewers. In my opinion Transformers films were not so watchable. The elements which made them famous and successful was the high-tech action sequences. It could be how a car turns into a self-operating robot or kind of machine. Honestly, what I feel is if you remove such high tech action packed sequences. You might feel that there soul of the film has been removed. The successful Transformers series looks absolutely hallow without them. Every two-three years one transformers film is being made. Here, comes the fourth installment in a seven year old film franchise named Transformers: Age of Extinction.

In Transformers: Age of Extinction someone discovers a metal from which the Transformers are being made. May be he wants to use the metal for destruction purpose. Also, at some point of time someone finds a deactivated Optimus Prime. Obvious execution could be how someone can activate him. Optimus Prime is the lead character in this part. So, probably he will have the highest screen presence as he says in the trailer “We need a new army”. There isn’t much in terms of story which needs to be conveyed in this film.

The action scenes looks repetitive meanwhile the plot looks sluggish. I think this part is a stereotype of the Transformer with nothing special, new and unique. So, there isn’t much which could be expected from Age of Extinction. The movie’s background story on which the film relies is the problem here. Because it’s unstructured and convoluted. I believe that this installment won’t be that much commercially successful.

X-Men:Days of Future Past Movie Review

X-Men: Days of Future Past (U/A)

Length: - 2 hrs. 11 min

Review
Before the release the audiences were clear about the fact that this installment of X-Men would be based on time travel to save the mutant’s existence. X-Men: Days of Future Past tries to match the plot where last installment ended. Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is chosen to travel almost 50 years back in time because of his healing abilities. Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) utilizes her ability and sends Wolverine back to almost five decades in past. Initially, Days of Future Past was slow and little tiresome. But within sometime as it gains momentum if never turns back. Like the previous part the movie switches to various places like New York, China, Paris etc. Also, what I personally felt here was in this part the X-Men were shown so powerful that the humans are like toys in front of them. The only thing humans could have done here is designing sentinels robots, who are capable of fighting and defeating mutation of any kind.

In every part there is an X-Men who comes up a lead or ability to utilize his/her power more than anyone else. In this installment it’s mystique played by lovely, gorgeous and adorable Jennifer Lawrence. She tries to kill the short heighted, mutant opponent and a brilliant scientist Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage). Because Trask has actually designed the sentinel robots to kill the mutants and protect humans. Mystique as I already mentioned is shown quite powerful and dominating. Everyone tries to stop her from killing Trash in the past. Also, saving her from being used to create the sentinel robots by researching her mutational DNA.

Magneto (Michael Fassbender) whose power are usually dominating over other mutants. This time he tries to kill Mystique in order to save X-Men but was being stopped by other mutants. Sometime I got the Dejavu kind of feeling of X-Men: First Class while watching Days of Future Past. Like the last part magneto wants to kill humans in order to create some scariness towards attacking mutants. In this installment as well he does the same and was being stopped by Professor X (James McAvoy) and other fellow mutants. The Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) had good screen presence and was a crucial character in the plot. Yet, I felt the Wolverine was somewhat underestimated in the film. Whether it was usage of his power or importance of his character.

There were so many mutants in the film that I couldn’t understand all of them i.e. who is capable of what? The ending of film was deeply satisfying, surprising and exciting at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed performances of Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Lawrence. Ellen Page makes an impression even in a short role. This was perhaps one of the first X-Men films which shows that mutants and humans can accept each other.

Verdict: - Nice One

Edge of Tomorrow Movie Trailer Review

Tom Cruise has been known for his sci-fi movies. His good work includes Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report & War of The Worlds. At the same time his movie named Oblivion was a box-office success and critics failure. Now, Tom Cruise has come up with his new film named Edge of Tomorrow with a tagline Live Die Repeat. Budget of this film is $175 million which really high. It has generated obvious risk for earning a profit from the film. The trailer of the film seems good, it talks about the failure of invasion from earth's side. After it was being attacked and captured by Aliens. William Cage (Tom Cruise) can probably defeat them because he repeats his life’s short span of time by living it again & again. After which he finds Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) who trains him to defeat the aliens.

It’s been believed that Tom Cruise’s character dies almost 200 times in the film. The Alien’s want to capture the whole world.William Cage is also becoming smarter by training and every time he dies. So, the fighting between William Cage and Aliens is what we can expect as an execution. The plot is pretty interesting because a man wants to change his eternity. The film’s action sequences of the war seems high tech with a tune of being machinist. Tom Cruise acting is short of natural meanwhile female lead Emily Bunt looks tough and charming at the same time.

As the central character is William cage so the story revolves around him. Therefore, Tom cruise is seen on the screen for most of time. Like all films based on Aliens and human fight Edge of Tomorrow is also about saving mankind. Fighting in this movie involves wearing heavy metal exoskeleton which is the obvious reason why most of scenes looks machinist. Overall, in my opinion Edge of Tomorrow deserves to be given a shot.

Verdict: - Deserves a shot

Dawn of Planet of Apes Movie Trailer Review

Dawn of Planet of Apes is the second installment in the reboot of Planet of Apes series. These science fiction movies are based on the concept of Apes taking over humans. In the last installment the Apes who were used for testing viral drug got their intelligence boosted. Therefore, in this installment they have built their own society and they believe they are strong together. Obviously, there will be fight in future between the apes and the humans. In order to avoid the same a human named Malcolm (Jason Clarke) tries to find a way by talking to apes leader Caesar (Andy Serkis). Malcolm comes up with a solution that apes can live in a particular area without fighting with humans.

The things turns out in a different way i.e. in spite of all the efforts the war between apes and human began. San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge which has been shown in Rise of Planet of Apes for the final fighting sequences. This time as well there might be some fighting sequence as the same bridge is being shown in the trailer. From the trailer movie looks awesome and hopefully it might be enjoyable and entertaining. The film will release on July 11th 2014.

The concept of apes overtaking human intelligence is not new and there are several movies based on the same. Dawn of Planet of Apes is the eight installment which has apes and human fighting with each other. The best scene in the trailer was Malcolm (Human) and Caesar (Ape) touching each other’s head in a tense situation. This installment shows the beginning of the war in a much massive and destructive way than the last part. The story is set about 10 years later where the last installment ended.

Verdict: - Good One

Heropanti Movie Trailer Review

Heropanti is an upcoming action romantic film which will be the debut of two actors i.e. Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon. Tiger Shroff is the son of well-known actor Jackie Shroff meanwhile he doesn’t look much similar to him. He actually looks pretty much like the same as North-East Indians. Tiger Shroff is physically tuff and it is believed that most of the stunts in Heropanti are done by him. From the trailer it seems that Heropanti has lots of action and romantic scenes. If you are expecting something good or unique from the film. I would suggest not to watch this one. In my opinion Tiger Shroff won’t be able to set a mark by his debut film. Rest would depend on his upcoming films.

Heropanti is pretty much similar to most of the Bollywood movies. If you compare it with a pattern that emerges from most of the Bollywood films, you won’t find it much different from them. What I liked in the trailer was some good and unique action sequences meanwhile what movie will be lacking is a good plot. It’s thought provoking and doesn’t makes you curious to watch it. The dialogue which is repeated multiple times in the film is “Heropanti- Sabko aati nahi meri jati nahi”.

The lead character has four characteristics flexibility: limitless, style: stealth, power: raw and weakness: love. Although every human has its own way of living life but describing someone like this sounds machinist. Tiger Shroff seems to have some talent but his talent has been utilized in a wrong way by this film. Heropanti in my opinion would have a hallow plot with some good action sequences.

The Xpose Movie Review

The Xpose (U/A)

Length: - 1 hr. 59 min.

Review
Himesh Reshammiya is back in his acting career with the film named The Xpose. This film also start with a song in a much similar pattern like Himesh’s acting debut Aap Ka Suroor. Here, the drama starts by the well-known narrator and actor Irfan Khan. The whole story is about larger than life of film stars. There are so many characters which are played mostly by new comers. That’s what makes the movies less interesting.

Here, comes our lead character named Ravi Kumar played by Himesh Reshammiya. He is full self-respect and kind of dominating. He kills a minister just because of a little anger. I don’t how comes he comes out of prison within just 1.5 years if he kills a minister. Biggest flaw of the film is concentrated so much on the image, self-respect, attitude and lifestyle of its characters. It is required for a film to be realistic, plot oriented.

Other than solid multilayered plot what a film needs is a fine plot execution i.e. a plot should have a well-defined flowchart. One thing which I have learned from this film is most girls are attracted to men who looks good, have a solid public image and able to impress them with some good witty lines. The real men might have a hard time in getting a good girl. The Xpose has two big singers like Himesh and Yo Yo Honey Singh. It’s definitely gonna some more songs than normal Bollywood movies. Most songs of movie doesn’t make a lasting impression. Also, they don’t have much resemblance to the plot.

There are many supporting actors in this film and the list is never ending. There is Irfan Khan, Adil Khan, Ananth Mahadevan, Daya Shankar Pandey and many others. In my opinion this film just has only some witty lines and lots of songs. Other than that I don’t see much here. No Doubt Ananth Mahadevan is a good director because he has good understanding of camera work, making good sets and nice costumes.

All the stuffs could have worked out well if the film if the film have had multilayered plot. Murder mystery of a girl is the one thing which moves it with a snail pace and makes it a bit interesting. The Xpose is about 2 hours long but it feels like exhausting to watch the film. Overall, It’s just an average film to watch.

The Amazing Spiderman 2 Movie Review

The Amazing Spiderman 2- 3D (U/A)

Length: - 2hrs. 22 min.

Review
This Spidy movie has a weak plot execution meanwhile it has quiet good sci-fi moments but they look almost hallow because of non-supportive plot. Romance between Peter (Andrew Garfield) & Gwen (Emma Stone) becomes complex in unnecessarily. Characters in the film chat more and more but does nothing much significant. Possibly because of the reason that characters here could be quiet young and at the learning stage.

Here is our villain an innocent man converted into electro man who consumes electricity for his power. Electro is research generated negative person form Oscorp industries. In this part we come to know that most of the Spiderman opponents are working for Oscorp Industries or Harry Oscorp. We have seen in many Spiderman movies Harry & Peter always has some problems. Sometimes they are friends but soon after some time complications comes.

Harry & Peter is friends for some time then soon some complications comes in their life which makes them enemies. So, it’s pretty clear what we have in this film which we already have seen many times in the previous Spidy movies. Problems between Harry & Peter at the same time problems between Peter and his girlfriend. Also, many giant negative created by Oscorp Industries includes the owners of Oscorp i.e. son and dad.

Alright here is something interesting Harry Oscorp needs Spiderman’s blood without which he thinks he will die. Spiderman’s denies as he thinks Harry will die because of the same. IT takes too much time for the plot to settle down in this part. You might definitely get bored because of this. Visually this film is stunning at the same time it’s slow and doesn’t work much.

In the beginning and in between there are many destruction scenes in which you can clearly identify that which one is the animated or which one is the real shot. In long fighting scene between Spiderman and electro it is clear that most of it is animated work. That’s why it seems cartoonish and unrealistic.

Overall, I would say that this Spidy movies is not that good meanwhile there are some good breathtaking visuals which you can enjoy.

Verdict: -  Not that Good
