2 States Movie Review

2 States (U/A)

Length: - 2hr. 29 min.

Two States tries to follow exactly the same as Chetan Bhagat’s novel but in my opinion it seems like rushing to follow the same. Background music is the best part of the film; music here actually creates feel good about the film. Love track between Alia and Arjun is good but still there is something missing in their chemistry onscreen. Here, the serious track in the film is obviously about the parents who doesn’t agree for the marriage initially believe the world is globalizing very fastly meanwhile there is a lot which actually differs in south and north Indian culture. Although the cultural barriers among the countries are either bridged are being enjoyed in most cases nowadays. Still there is no doubt that Indian is subdivided in many ways whether it be language, color or culture. This was the potential topic for this film and Chetan Bhagat’s novel both of which are based on Chetan Bhagat’s real life.

Male in this couple believe that “Bhaag jane mein izzat nahi hoti”. So both of them tries to convince their parents for the acceptance of the marriage. Slowly the efforts of the couple starts work after initial hard time. Slowly Krish (Arjun Kapoor) is able to win the heart of Ananya’s (Alia Bhatt) mother and father. “Pyaar se lekar shaadi tak ka rishta bahut lamba hota hai”this dialogue in the film justifies what mostly this film is all about. After Krish is able to impression Ananya’s parents its Ananya’s turn to do the same. This is where the film gets boring.

Alia Bhatt is getting better in her every film; in 2 States she has done kind of natural acting. Her charm and acting were both enjoyable. Arjun Kapoor is kind of serious character here, may be his character requires the same.2 states does creates an impression but mostly for the first half. Second half is not bad but becomes boring and little bit dragging. Overall, I would 2 states is not a bad film but yes it is a very good one either.

Verdict: - Watchable but fails to make an impression

Rating: - 2.5 / 5 Stars

  1. Here is again the stereotype bollywood. Why a south Indian girl or boy in Hindi movie has to be a Tamil speaking person from Chennai? Does bollywood think that Chennai is capital of whole south India and Tamil is the only language spoken? Why not a kannada speaking girl from Bangalore or a Telagu speaking boy from Hyderabad? I would never watch such stereotyped cross culture Hindi movies.

    1. I think the story was simple but yet it was based on Chetan Bhagat's novel which has made it interesting for audiences. But, the film wasn't that enjoyable it was just above average.
