Dishkiyaoon Movie Review

Length: - 1hr. 59 min.

Dishkiyaoon is quiet similar kind of stuff which Bollywood produce regularly. Obviously, such kind of films have stopped working at box office currently. Harman Baweja who is a well-educated actor from Bollywood. Yet, none of his films were a box office success. Dishkiyaoon is a film which you can watch from any point of time, chances are high that you won’t miss anything here. Overstretched drama, unenjoyable romance, complicated gangster story are some of the ingredients of this film which makes you suffer rather than enjoying it.

Dishkiyaoon is most about a kind hearted gangster Viki Kartoos (Harman Baweja), biggest problem with the film was it tries to deliver something substantial through an ordinary way to convey it. In a long than the usual required scene of Viki trying to steal a black diary of significant importance. I felt the filmmaker was trying to make something substantial but in an absolutely wrong way. Sequences in the film are boring enough that after a while you just think what’s going on here? Viki is gangster by his circumstances, portraying his story to Lakwa (Sunny Deol).

This film involves actors involved like Sunny Deol, Aditya Pancholi but they are just kept on the side line meanwhile Harman Baweja is the lead actor her. A wanna be big gangster Viki is taking advice from his guru and that’s how he gets some respect in a gang.  This films seems like re launching of the Harman Baweja which doesn’t seems to work out here. The kind of stuff Dishkiyaoon wants to deliver was mostly being conveyed more than a decade back in Bollywood. At this point at Bollywood or watching the current trend at Bollywood; Dishkiyaoon is a film which is unable to satisfy audience’s needs, wants and demand.

Verdict: - Below Average

Youngistaan Movie Review

Youngistaan (U/A)

Length: - 2 hrs. 13 min.

Jacky Bhagnani who has been struggling from a long time in the industry. Jacky has done few films in the recent years mostly produced by his dad Vasu Bhagnani. In spite of the films being youth centric, raising good issues and Jacky’s endless effort to make his films better in every way. Still most of Jacky’s films were unsuccessful; here is another film about today’s youth –Youngistaan. Youngistaan concentrates more on the romantic side of its lead character Abhimanyu (Jacky Bhagnani). I am not sure whether there is a clause in Indian constituent that a son of Prime Minister (PM) can take his position. Well here in this film it seems he can. Abhimanyu takes charge of PM after death of his father played by Boman Irani.

Soon after taking charge of PM Abhimanyu keeps romancing with his girlfriend Anwita (Neha Sharma).Even before taking charge also most of the time Abhimanyu just spends his time romancing his girlfriend; when he works a giant gaming company named Akira in Tokyo, Japan. Everything here in this film whether be its romantic side or Abhimanyu taking charge of PM is overdramatized. One more problem here when Abhimanyu being exposed romancing with his girlfriend and his girlfriend being pregnant. I really don’t see an issue here, at least in having a girlfriend. PM is not allowed to have a girlfriend. Then, what will happen if he is already married or getting married?

Jacky Bhagnani’s simplistic and adorable approach is the only thing which gives Youngistaan a watchable experience. Neha Sharma has not much to do other than being supportive to her boyfriend. Director Syed Ahmed Afzal absolutely knows how to direct a scene if something needs improvement is the plot. PM’s character here is shown just a person who is most of time shown as using his power for simple events where it’s not required. Also, he is unable to bring any significant change in the system. Overall, Youngistaan deserved a better plot to be a good film.

Ragini MMS 2 Movie Review

Ragini MMS 2 (A)

Length:- 2 hrs. 5 min.

Ragini MMS 2 is obvious a sequel to the film Ragini MMS based on a real life incident. Here, in the second part the film elaborates the stories related to the haunted house where Ragini MMS was made. This is one of the very few sequels in Bollywood which does gets more interesting than the first one. Ragini MMS seems to have some background story behind the haunted house & the witch resides there. Also, what happened to Ragini after she somehow escapes from the house. Sunny Leone as expected is being exposed a lot; she has small erotic sequences with as many as three actors in the film. As the story moves ahead it does gets interesting, you gets curious about the things which are happening. Also, there is problem with the films pace, it’s a way too slow that it doesn’t makes you involve fully in it.

Ragini MMS 2 goes sometime with just a snail pace, if the some more dramatic scenes could have been added to the film then it could have worked out really well. Sunny Leone is an adorable watch here, she still looks fabulous and younger than of her age. Every time whenever the spirits are being shown the sound Ragini is played. In the end it doesn’t sound that the climax is derived from some of the Hollywood films. Ragini MMS still has moments to enjoy for, the story does tries to create a little of originality.

Ragini MMS 2 was one of few Bollywood movies which has the ghost presence quiet frequently than from the normal Bollywood flick. Although the scary moments are not so scary most of the time. The experience after watching this movie was kind of mixed up. It was enjoyable many times and sometimes was repetitive as well. Overall, I would say that Ragini MMS 2 is not a bad choice to watch for once.

Verdict: -   One time watchable

Need For Speed Movie Review

Need for Speed (3D) (U/A)

Length: - 2 hrs. 10 min.

Need for Speed film is being inspired from the popular gaming series named Need for Speed, commonly known as NFS. Need for Speed is a very boring and unentertaining film. This film relies on a really slim plot which makes it dragging and highly stretched drama.Movie is about Toby Marshall (Aaron Paul) who is a street racer. One day while racing for greed; one of the good friend of Toby gets intentionally killed by his co-racer Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). But, instead of Dino, Toby is being sent to jail for two years. Will Toby be able to prove his innocence? What happens to Dino after the incident?

Half of the movie is about Toby driving for approximately 45 hrs. to  somewhere in California; to participate in his final street race. This film is just about either driving and/or racing car; writing is the weakest point here. NFS is absolutely predictable drama. It has nothing new and exciting to entertain us. Ford Mustang here is being advertised a lot; numerous times name of the car seems to be called unnecessarily. Probably as per the need of marketing for the same.

Trailer of the Need for Speed was too good, which has obviously increased the expectations from the film. But, what you get here  is a sluggish drama. After a while watching Toby driving the car for a long long time. I thought that nothing could save this movie anymore. So much more was required here whether be it a story line, sequences of events, may be even the refinement in the car racing sequences. Overall, Need for Speed is a damn boring, dull and unentertaining watch.

Verdict: - Sluggish and Boring

Bewakoofiyaan Movie Review

Bewakoofiyaan (U/A)

Length: - 1 hr. 59 min.

Bewakoofiyaan is about upper middle class girlfriend and boyfriend trying to take permission of girl’s father for their marriage. Here comes the problem with the film plot wise it doesn’t move much rather becomes repetitive and boring. Mohit Chadda (Ayushmann Khurrana) loses his job, car and finally his girlfriend as well. This is the story which drives the narrative for about an hour and half. Honestly, everyone could have expected a way too much from this film. Obvious problem here is the girlfriend’s father V K Sehgal (Rishi Kapoor) who is not ready to give permission for marriage but when he becomes ready for the same. Both girl and boy loses interest in each other.

Interesting twist along with some good moment in the last half an hour makes this film watchable for some time but other than that it’s a boring drama which is being overstretched. The most often used dialogue by Mr. Sehgal to make an impression is “Home secretary mere batchmate tha”. It seems in the film that very little masala has been added here to spicy dish.

The much hyped bikini scene of Sonam Kapoor comes and goes without catching much of our attention. Every actor here does a good job. Sonam looks fabulous and gives her character a charm. Ayushmann is simply superb in his acting while rishi Kapoor is interesting in a role of a unique stubborn father. Bewakoofiyaan remains boring, average and unentertaining watch.

Verdict: -  Boring

Gulaab Gang Movie Review

Gulaab Gang (U/A)

Length: - 2 hrs. 19 min.

Gulab Gang is about women in power. It mostly revolves around two women Rajjo (Madhuri Dixit) & Sumitra Devi (Juhi Chawla), their clashes & fight for more power. Gulaab Gang isn’t watchable & yet it’s flawed fun which not convincing. Few good dialogue and dramatic scenes makes this watchable but it’s truly not a good entertainer. There are issues raised in the film rape, women status in society and many others. Gulaab Gang makes use of too much of regional Hindi that makes it a bit hard to understand few dialogues even for native Hindi speaker if he doesn’t understand that kind of Hindi.

Gulaab Gang has many of its positive points like the clash between Rajjo & Sumitra Devi makes the drama interesting and unpredictable. What lacks here is some structuring and refinement in the plot which could have made it better entertainer. Madhuri Dixit looks quite younger than Juhi Chawla in the film. Rajjo just want to build a school in their village meanwhile runs a gang named Gulaab Gang. Sumitra Devi is a politician who wants to win by hook or crook. Rajjo decides to fight election against Sumitra Devi. Is Rajjo able to build the school? Can Rajjo be able to win the election against Sumitra Devi?

Gulaab Gang being inspired from realistic events shows struggle of women in the society as well as find the respect they deserve. Background story of Rajjo isn’t well defined neither Gulaab Gang is properly introduced to us. Realistic fighting scenes could have been better than they actually are. Overall, Gulaab Gang is an average watch with somewhat entertainment stuff.

Verdict: - Average

Queen Movie Review

Queen (U/A)

Length: -  2hrs. 42 min.

Queen is a slow pace crisp and compelling drama, which is on the track almost all time. Kagana Ranaut here is one on whom the film relies. She perfomed the best till date in the film. The plot is about a typical Indian girl being dumped by her boyfriend a day before her marriage. After that Rani (Kagana Ranaut) goes for her honeymoon alone to Paris & Amsterdam. Interestingly conveyed drama that how a conservative girl adjusts in a hotel room along with three men is quite good.

Queen shows the journey of a woman, who goes abroad probably for her retrospection. This trip rebuilds the confidence of Rani & she becomes much more mature to tackle the events happening in her life. At one point of time, I felt that some of the scenes in the movie Queen are more or less the same to English Vinglish . It may be because both of them shows a female trying to fit in a total different culture abroad. Finally, both of them makes few really good friends in a foreign nation. I don’t think the song “Pura London Thumadka” was appropriate for the movie which has no relation to London in its plot.

Rajkumar Rao is an interesting watch in a short role of arrogant boyfriend. Kagana Ranaut is one of the most underrated/underestimated actress in Bollywood. She proofs her herself in the film so well that she might not be questioned ahead in near future for her acting skills. Rani tries to make conversations in Hindi a lot of time with the foreigners which was interesting & strange at the same time. Overall, I would say Queen was a very good film from Bollywood after a really long time.

Verdict:- Nice

Total Siyappa Movie Review

Total Siyappa (U/A)

Length: - 1 hr. 48 min.

Total Siyappa is a movie which has raised expectations from its trailer but the film isn’t good as expected. It’s just based on one day event of Asha (Yami Gautam) introducing her love Aman (Ali Zafar) to her family. In starting Total Siyappa is on track and it does makes sense in what’s happening. As the story proceeds it starts getting boring; after intermission this film totally gets derailed. Post interval it’s just a collection of preposterous events which seems to be easy to understand just for morons. Yami Gautam looks gorgeous and has also played her character quiet comfortably.

Initial conversation since inception is nicely written but truly the plot needed so much more to be explored. Probably, it could have worked out better if the film could have had covered some more time period and a lot more sequences then the ones being delivered. Indians and Pakistani neighbors keep fighting here for non-sense reasons which is not so enjoyable. Especially if the expectations from the film was so high. Dump ass police officer makes it hard to understand that why is he doing what  he is doing. Ali Zafar’s performance has improved with time but still he needs some more improvement.

In some of the moments we are being shown that people behave in much more disgusting way in abroad then from their home country. This becomes hard to believe not sure about the reality. Total Siyappa just touches the topic on which it is based, if it could have utilized its full potential then the things could have worked out in a different way. Total Siyappa also lacks in creating any kind curiosity, most of the scenes can be easily predicted. Overall, Total Siyappa is a high potential average watch.

Verdict: - Average

Shaadi Ke Side Effects Movie Review

Shaadi Ke Side Effects (U/A)

Length: - 2 hrs. 33 min.

Shaadi Ke Side Effects (SKSE) does deliver some of the enjoyable moments. Trisha (Vidya Balan) & Sid (Farhan Akhtar) are very happy with their married life. Trouble starts when Trisha gets pregnant after which she stops loving Sid & concentrates just on their child Mili. Sid becomes so unhappy and lonely in the meantime. You will find some genuine comedy moments when Trisha & Sid makes conversation and/or argues about something. These circumstances doesn’t last long it changes when Sid asks Ranveer (Ram Kapoor) for the secret of his marriage life. Post application of Ranveer’s Sid becomes happy again. Here, enters a neighbor Shekhar (Purab Kohli) tats where things get problematic again between Sid & Trisha.

It’s interesting to see how things changes between Trisha & Sid. This gives the film some of the enjoyable and entertaining moments. Every time Sid takes suggestions from Ranveer which also makes things changing in an interesting way. SKSE is not a film which covers up something on a timeline rather it’s somewhat similar to real life events and situations.

In the last 45 minutes film film moves from the comedy track to serious track. This time couple tries to adjust themselves according to each other. Film doesnot get boring here, it tries to convey a message. From the dialogue “Zindagi mein kuch jada paane ki khwashish ham who kho dete hai jo hamare paas hai”. I was curious to know that how this film will end as things were turning out in an interesting way. Overall, SKSE is watchable for little bit fun but not too much.

Verdict: - Entertaining but not so good
