Satyagraha Movie Review

Satyagraha (U/A)

Length: - 2 hrs. 42 min

Review
Satyagraha is a movie by numerous National Award winners Prakash Jha; it takes inspiration from various realistic situations like revolution by Anna Hazare and his right hand Arvind Kejriwal. Satyagraha lacks the engaging narrative which is being present in other films by Jha like Apaharan, Gangaajal and many other political crime dramas. Dialogues are tried to be cheesy oriented rather than realistic and plot oriented. Although Satyagraha tries to show something good but its plot doesn’t make you curious enough and leaves you exhausted and frustrated in the end.

Dwarka Anand / Daduji (Amitabh Bachchan) is a teacher cum social activist who relies on the path of truth and honesty. Daduji’s son dies in an accident after which Manav (Ajay Devgn) comes close to him like another son and fights with him against corruption and illegal activities. They also try to change the existing rules and regulations of the system. In which Manav takes the help of Journalist Yasmin (Kareena Kapoor) with whom he obviously falls in love. Corrupt Minister Balram Singh (Manoj Bajpai) is the biggest opponent, who wants to win by hook or crook. At the same time Arjun Singh (Arjun Rampal) helps Manav in getting public support in order to fight with Balram Singh. Daduji goes on fast while fighting for justice which makes him to weak that he cannot stand only. Balram Singh wants to take the advantage of the situation, which finally leads in taking the wrong decisions by right intentional people.

Film has a too simple storyline which is depicted in a way that it looks complicated. It has a strong star cast with good performances but less to narrate. Few events happen in no time with the help of social media which seems a bit less realistic. Yasmin as a journalist is always with Manav irrespective of whether she has a story to catch or not; which job gives this much freedom. Performance wise almost all are good in this male dominated story Kareena and Amrita Rao has roles of minimal importance.

Verdict: - Too many character and less engaging narrative makes it boring and exhausting drama

Madras Cafe Movie Review

Madras Cafe (U/A)

Length: - 2 hrs. 10 min.

Review
Madras Cafe is an intelligent thriller based on Srilankan wars which took place somewhere in 90’s which eventually led in killing ex. Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. There has been a trend of real life incident based documentary kind of thriller in the recent time like Zero Dark Thirty, D-Day but this one is somewhat similar to Blood Diamond and Body of Lies. Madras cafe is one of the successfully made films which never get off the track. It has a brisk pace with solid plot and its length is also up to the mark. Madras Cafe shows how politics, local groups and even international people got involved in a small arms deal which eventually turns out to be big threat to India.

Vikram Singh (John Abraham) is an Indian Army officer who deals with the code operations conducted by the government. Vikram is being sent to Sri Lanka in order to control a locally powerful guy named Anna. Vikram takes the help of a British journalist Jaya (Nargis Fakhri), who does have some sources for getting information. Vikram plans to attack on Anna but for that he needs a good no. of arms from the government. In the process of getting arms, Vikram is being attacked by Anna and the arms are being taken. After which Vikram gets information on the motive behind making Anna more powerful after following many leads.

Shoojit Sarkar who directed Vicky Donor this time delivers a film which is of different theme but is of equally good standard. Madras Cafe in spite of getting to a spy tone it goes on a realistic track. John Abraham is a simply superb in his powerful; he looks good and goes deep in the character which justifies looking it real. Nargis Fakhri is also good in her role but has a bit shorter one to play. Madras Cafe has many fresh faces but it works because of its strong plot.

Verdict:-   A must watch thriller with a decent plot

Ratings:-    3.5 / 5 Stars

Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai Dobara Movie Review

Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobara (U/A)

Length: - 2hrs. 40 min.

Review
OUATIMD fails from the inception; the mafia environment which is being created doesn’t look real. The ingredients which made the prequel a big success was the awesome creation of complete setup of 70’s, simply superb performance by Ajay Devgan as Sultan Mirza, the cheesy lines and the list goes on. But in the OUATIMD there is enough masala to make the dish spicy. Chocolaty heroes like Imran Khan don’t suit in the role of Don while Akshay Kumar’s get up is cool but I personally feel that character is not memorable like the Sultan Mirza of OUATIM. Another good thing about the first installment was it left a long lasting impression but is boring drama that you don’t even feel like watching once.

Shoaib (Akshay Kumar) trusts two boys to work for him; one of them being Aslam (Imran Khan) the film jumps quickly to 12 years later where these two boys has got younger. Shoaib comes to Mumbai in order to kill one of his biggest enemies and falls in love with a girl named Jasmine (Sonakshi Sinha). Both Shoaib & Aslam falls in love for the same for the same girl but the girl doesn’t love any of them.

There is a comeback of old actress Sonali Bendre as Shoaib’s old love interest and she is good in her performance. Sonakshi’s character is kind hearted intelligent and dump at the same time. Films weak plot stretches like a bubblegum, just to know who will get the girl. In the last 30 minutes films has a small twist which makes you feel that the film gets better but it’s a short part and doesn’t last long. After few minutes of the starting itself films quickly loses the track and it goes nowhere.

Milan Luthria who made two success good films like The Dirty Picture and Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, both of them were good adaptations of a person’s life. In the current film it seems that he doesn’t have a reference to proceed.

Verdict: -     Disappointment after a nice prequel like OUATIM

Chennai Express Movie Review

Chennai Express (U/A)

Length: - 2 hrs. 22 min.

Review
Chennai Express is a boring film; it has all the ingredients of the masala films which don’t make any sense to the audience who wants to watch some serious cinema. There is too much Tamil in the film without any subtitles and explanation that what’s going on. The one liner is not cheesy enough and jokes are repetitive. Plot has always been a problem for an Indian film. In case of Chennai Express it is the biggest problem.

Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) plans for a vacation after his grandfather’s death but somehow he gets entangled with Meena (Deepika Padukone) whom he met in a train. Rahul wants to escape but because of Meena and the circumstances he couldn’t. Rahul and Meena go to village where Meena’s father is a big don and they both tries to escape from his father kingdom, which the later part of the story.

What’s enjoyable is beautiful locations and nice camera work for the starting few minutes in the film, but the drama is so dump that you feel like sleeping for a while. Everything can be easily predicted in the film and there is nothing you will be curious to watch. Shahrukh Khan seems like wasting his talent in a rubbish task. Deepika Padukone character is interesting and it gives you a good feel of a Tamilian girl by the way she speaks Hindi.

Verdict: -    Too boring

Ratings:-      2 / 5 Stars

The Smurfs 2 Movie Review

The Smurfs 2 (U)

Length:- 1 hr. 45 min.

Review
The Smurfs 2 is a light drama which doesn’t explore much and sticks to an average plot. The film mostly target kids but yet there isn’t enough laughable moments for the kids as well. The simplistic things are being conveyed in such a way that it seems like circumlocution of the story line. What the film does have a genuine message to convey which is already being presented in many other films.

On Smurfette’s birthday her fellow Smurfs are planning for surprise birthday party. But before they could have started the celebration; Smurfette is being abducted by Gargamel. Gargamel who is most famous magician of Paris wants to know the secret formula of Smurfs from Smurfette by being emotionally attached to her. Smurfs starts searching for Smurfette in Paris as their suspect Gargamel is in Paris.

3D effects in the film are never utilized much even if you remove the glasses in between you won’t feel much difference. Eiffel Tower of Paris is being shown again in many scenes but most of them fail to create any interest. Film is made like this even if you skip it for something you can easily understand what is happening.

The Smurfs 2 is so boring that you may even fall asleep although it never dumps down much neither it is absurd.

Verdict: -    Average

Ratings: -      2 / 5 Stars

B A Pass Movie Review

B A Pass (A)

Length: - 1 hr. 41min.

Review
B A Pass is a straight forward presentation of the brutal reality of our society. It’s an erotic thriller which is unpredictable and executes smoothly. The negative point of the film is it leaves you frustrated as it ends. The sex scenes in the first half are bold enough but the film doesn’t deviate from its theme because of that. Based on the novel “Railway Aunty” film touches many issues like poverty and male prostitution.

A young boy named Mukesh (Shadab Kamal) after his parents death moves to Delhi for under graduation. Mukesh is being encountered by a married woman named Sarika (Shilpa Shukla) who seduces him and he quickly entangles into a situation which ends up in a mysterious prostitution activties . Mukesh who has to take care of his two sisters living in an orphan finds himself stuck where he neither has a house nor the money to take care of his sisters.

Film doesn’t answer many questions till the end in order to make the theme realistic. The story seems to be believable because of the good performances and the narratives in which it’s being told. Shilpa Shukla is superb in her performance, she expresses so much through her eyes and body language. She has played her role with an ease. The other main character is played by Shadab Kamal is also good enough and hold the film in his hand. Rests of the characters are in short appearances and is of lesser importance.

There is a special appearance by Deepti Naval in the film which forms a part of the film. The film tries to give a message of not indulging into fraudulent activities which may lead you to lose everything.

Verdict:- Overall, it’s a good film but don’t watch it if you are tensed because it may intensify that.
