Lootera Movie Review

Lootera (U/A)

Length: - 2 hrs. 23 min.

Lootera is a movie which utilizes the full potential of cinema. It has few really good eye catching moments. Lootera is less focused on story but more on a cinematic experience. Lootera is not flawless and at times it does get boring especially in the second half. Vikramaditya Motwane whose last film ‘Udaan’ was critically acclaimed; this time also as a director he seems to have complete grip on the film.

Lootera is set in the years 1953-54. Pakhi (Sonakshi Sinha) lives in Manikpur, West Bengal with her father, who is a zamindar and has some Archaeological assets. Varun (Ranveer Singh), who is an archaeologist, visits their place for some official work. Varun quickly entangles with the family while Varun & Pakhi falls in love with each other. But Varun has a background story because of which they cannot be together.

Sonakshi Sinha has given a really good performance. She utilizes her feminism and does justice to the emotions required for the scenes as well. Ranveer Singh has also acted well but in front of Sonakshi he doesn’t seem that good. There are a few moments which can be enjoyed cinematically like one in which Ranveer Singh climbs the tree. Adil Hussain is also present in a small role of a stiff police officer and he does a good job in that.

Vikramaditya Motwane creates a decent environment of 50’s whether be it romance, dressing sense, way of conversation etc. Lootera runs a bit slowly and the story may fall short of expectations.

Verdict:-  Lootera is one of the best films of the year and its recommended that you make time for it.
