Gunday Movie Trailer Review

Gunday is an upcoming action romantic film from Yash Raj Productions, which is being written & directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Film is set in the 1970s in Bengal, which shows Bikram (Ranveer Singh) and Bala (Arjun Kapoor) as best friends cum gangsters. They falls in love with the same girl named Nandita (Priyanka Chopra) without any controversial issues between them for the same. Gunday has set up a good ambience of the 70’s but its plot seems to be weak. Irfan Khan has character of cop who tries to control these gangsters but his character doesn’t seems to be worthy opponent of Bikram and Bala.

The plot seems to be quiet straight forward with absolutely nothing new, unique and fresh. Other than the good ambience and basic set up of 70s, Gunday seems to be overall an average watch. Narration in the trailer by Irfan Khan seems to be good but his character seems to be underwritten. One of the good dialogues from the trailer “Pistool ki goli aur laudiya ki boli jab chalti hai toh jaan dono mein hi khatre mein hoti hai”.

Gunday is set to release on valentine day i.e. 14th February 2014. Gunday will also be released in Bengali; the songs of  the bengali by Bappi Lahiri. Film is being inspired from the story of two small thieves involved in coal mafia of the same time. Ranveer Singh seems to be more confident and mature actor in the trailer from Arjun Kapoor. Ranveer Singh is looking physical fit as well from Arjun Kapoor. Overall, I would say that nothing much can be expected from the same film and can be given a miss.

Highway Movie Trailer Review

Highway is an upcoming Bollywood drama film, directed by an interesting filmmaker Imitiaz Ali. Highway has Alia Bhatt & Randeep Hooda as its lead actors. Highway will be second film for Alia Bhatt who made her debut in Student of the Year. Randeep Hooda has been in Bollywood for more than a decade now. An Actor who made his debut in Mira Nair’s Monsoon wedding in 2001. Imitiaz Ali who has made some interesting films like "Rockstar", "Jab We Met" etc. this time also has come up with his unique narrative work.

Alia Bhatt is being kidnapped by Randeep Hooda, after which Randeep takes her to some other place. Alia’s character in spite of getting kidnapped, she is not unhappy but enjoys the journey. According to the trailer “In bondage she found freedom”. She starts enjoying life and probably falls in love with Randeep’s character.

Although the topic of kidnapping isn’t new but the film has some interesting way and fresh ideas to show it. Imitiaz Ali always shows something new and unique in his film. Highway movie is already being talked a lot among audiences. There is a kissing scene in the film which was also being hyped even before the release of trailer of the film.

Nikhil (Sidharth Malhotra) is a senti middle class boy while Meeta (Parineeti Chopra) is a mental girl. This boy-girl combo is called as senti- mental in the film. HTP seems to have interesting characters but there isn’t much story as per film's trailer. HTP doesn’t seem like pretty interesting watch.

This is the second time with the film HTP that Dharma Production is producing a film along with another banner i.e. Phantom Production after "The Lunchbox". Trailer of HTP seems to have some good enjoyable and funny moments but still it seems like an above average affair. Parineeti Chopra has got some unique kind of look in the film. She also seems to be comfortable in play in it. Sidharth Malhotra is also not bad in his part.

Dhoom 3 Movie Review

Dhoom 3 (U/A)

Length: - 2 hrs. 52 min.

“Dhoom 3” is the third installment in one of the most successful Bollywood franchises named “Dhoom”. “Dhoom 3” is really disappointing, uninteresting and overstretched drama. There are just too many running and chasing sequences in the film. I don’t understand why the long intro scene of Jai Dixit was putted in the third installment. John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan showed their coolness in Dhoom 1 & 2 respectively. Here, Aamir Khan’s character tries to show the smartness rather than coolness.

Plot is the weakest point of the film otherwise “Dhoom 3” has ultraclean surface in terms of filmmaking unlike other Bollywood commercially successful films like Dabang. There are two magic tricks in the film- first is being derived from Hollywood film The Prestige and the second one isn’t impressive enough. Katrina kaif has a short and non-significant role in the film.

In Dhoom 3 at least we are being shown how the robberies took place which made it interesting to watch. In Dhoom 3 none of the robberies are being shown. After every robbery Aamir Khan just comes out of the building of the bank and is being chased by cops. Dhoom 3 has some interesting moments, also being shot in some of the gorgeous locations but it’s not thoroughly enjoyable because of the plot.

The filmmakers seems to be running out of ideas for the third installment. They don’t have a multilayered plot to show for this thief and cop chase franchise. Aamir Khan and Yash Raj Films is also a deadly combo. Aamir Khan who has come up with some of the most innovative and interesting films in the last few years. He is unable to work with his own innovative way with YRF.

YRF who never made any of the out of the box films. They just stick with the formula films which can make some money on box office but were never really innovative and highly unpredictable. Last time Aamir & YRF made Fanaa which was a crap only. Fanaa was a film in which a terrorist is never shown to commit any sort of big crime.

Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra both fails to make an impression. Even, an American girl character playing a cop, maintains silence for a long time because he fails to understand what she needs to do & why she was being hired?

Verdict: - Overstretched and uninteresting watch

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Movie Review

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (U/A)

Length: - 2 hr. 26 min.

Hunger Games: Catching fire is the second installment is a Sci-Fi Adventure film based on the novel by Suzanne Collins. In the second installment Hunger games has more breathtaking moments than the first one. It’s visually spectacular with some of the good action scenes. Although moments in the film are not that scary as it claims to be. Players fighting with deadly monkeys’ is thrilling shot. Much longer in length, makes you hold your seat for a longer time. Jennifer Lawrence is the soul reason to watch this film. This 23 year old actress gives a terrific performance which makes the movie even more watchable.

After winning 74th Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) & Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) returns to their home and rejoice for their victory. People has built up some hope in their mind with these winners. But the creator and President of these Games Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman) & Coriolanus Snow (Donald Sutherland) believe to that Katniss needs to be eliminated because of people’s hope with her. Therefore, they makes a new rule to call out the previous winners to play with each other in the 75th Hunger Games. Whether Katniss & Peeta would be able to win the Hunger Games this year?

If you haven’t watched the last film of the Hunger Games it’s not too hard for you to understand what’s going on here? There are so many characters in this installment which makes it hard to understand who has survived and who is being killed? Josh Hutcherson is unable convince with his acting skills, which is ad. Liam Hemsworth makes an impression in a small part itself. Catching Fire ends with a twist to make you feel starving for the next installment.

Verdict: - Nice

Frozen (3D) Movie Review

Frozen 3D (U)

Frozen is an animated film by Walt Disney Studio. Disney known for their lovely character Mickey Mouse starts the film with a short funny act casting Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Jackpot Movie Review

Jackpot (A)

Length: – 1 hr. 32 min.

Jackpot is a comedy thriller, story of the film is so twisted that you lose interest in the film. Jackpot doesn’t work in anyway, even Sunny Leone presence is not a savior. Actors are being wasted, none of them is able to come up with some good work in the film. Sachin Joshi makes some efforts but doesn’t work out much. He needs to work on acting for some more time in order to be a good actor. Naseeruddin Shah”s look is unique but certainly not impressive. His acting is average as well. Sunny Leone looks adorable, the dubbing for her voice is not good.

Movie is based on boat casino in Goa by the name Jackpot. Francis (Sachin Joshi) is a vagabond in search of work. Boss (Naseeruddin Shah) is the owner of the casino. Maya (Sunny Leone) is the girlfriend of Francis.Boss, Maya & Francis makes a plan to make crores of rupees but the plan doesn’t succeed and the money is lost. Who has got the money becomes a Mystery?

Overall, Jackpot is a damn boring film. In spite of its short runtime of 92 minutes it’s hard to tolerate. The twist and turns of the film are predictable. The execution of the plot is really weak. Film is a random collection of events without a proper connection. Jackpot has a ok kind of music which makes it somewhat easy to tolerate this drama.

Oldboy Movie Review

Oldboy (A)

Length: - 1 hr. 44 min.

Oldboy is an American remake of 2003 South Korean mystery thriller by the same name. This one is also pretty much similar to the old film which makes it less enjoyable. If you saw the old film chances are higher you may not equally enjoy this one. Bollywood has also made an unauthorized remake of Oldboy in 2006 with some of the necessary changes; climax of the film was almost changes. American Oldboy seems to be much faster in pace; sometimes more than required. Film has been shortened in length from 140 minutes to 103 minutes probably which had made it worst.

In 1993 Joe Dowett (Josh Brolin) was mysteriously imprisoned for as many as 20 years. He is not allowed to contact anyone and forced to eat the same food every day. When he is being released in 2013; he tries to find out who did this and why. Joe takes the help of Marie (Elizabeth Olsen) and an old friend Chucky (Michael Imperiol). Joe tries to torture the prison owner Chaney (Samuel L. Jackson) but doesnot get much information from him. The stranger meets Joe himself and confess that he did this to him. He also says that he has his daughter and for getting her, he needs to find out the motive behind the same imprisonment.

There are moments in the film but they doesn’t last long. Climax of the film is good and satisfying, but rest of the film is less enjoyable. Oldboy has revenge as its theme, it’s not for the kind hearted person. What’s wrong here is an old product with a new and fresh packaging, which makes it hard to sell. Blowing off head or cutting body parts is the kind of brutality shown in the film. If, you already saw the previous  film its hard to see it again even in the remake with similar plot.

Verdict: - Above Average

R..Rajkumar Movie Review

R...Rajkumar (U/A)

Length:-  2 hrs. 26 min.

R…Rajkumar is damn boring from the starting itself; Prabhudeva this time also takes some of his favorite actors like Sonu Sood and Sonakshi Sinha in the film. R...Rajkumar who tells us his full name as Romeo Rajkumar instead of predictably Rambo Rajkumar. This film is not at all made to be understood it’s a collection of many nonsense events. Scene which require some seriousness are also being shot in a comic way; many of the negative characters are hilarious even while committing a crime.

In the initial scenes Sonakshi Sinha just delivers abusing dialogues for Shahid Kapoor. Films of the similar journal doesn’t require any script it’s actually rubbish and absurd. Interval between the songs are so less, you feel that most of them were not required at all.

Romeo Rajkumar (Shahid Kapoor) works for Shivraj (Sonu Sood); saves Shivraj from his only worthy opponent Manik Parmar (Ashish Vidyarthi). After which R Rajkumar becomes his right hand; his falls in love at first sight with a girl named Chanda (Sonakshi Sinha). None of the film of the similar journal has any twists or turns in it. This one claims to have one that both Shivraj and Romeo wants to marry same girl Chanda.

Fighting sequence in which Shahid beats numerous guys after saying “silent ho ja warna mein violent ho jauga” is stretched unnecessarily. This dialogue and the fighting sequence is two times there in the film. Can we have much more respect for female actress in the films because in this as well as most of the Bollywood films they does not have much to do. In the male dominating films the real life and reel life never matches; what exists is a big ego of the villains which has to come down by the activities of lead actor.

Shahid is keep on fighting with someone or he is making love with Sonakshi. A common man cannot do anything; he just watches to whatever is happening or tolerates whatever villain does to them. One more thing that they can possibly wait for the hero to come and save them. Certainly Bollywood needs much better films not to compete with Hollywood but for themselves to be somewhere in delivering entertainment.

Verdict: - Very Boring
